U21s to line out with clubs on Sunday

Paul Fitzpatrick

Cavan U21s will be expected to play on two successive days after a round of club fixtures was fixed for this Sunday, less than 24 hours after the U21s take on Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final.

The fixtures were confirmed at a county board meeting last Monday night.

Clubs will be expected to call on their county players as this will be a round of All-County Football League matches, as opposed to Breffni League, which is effectively a separate competition which has no impact on promotion or relegation.

“It was decided a while ago and confirmed at a county board meeting on Monday,” stated county secretary Liam McCabe, who confirmed that U21 players will be expected to play even if they win against Dublin.

“The final is two weeks away if they win [against Dublin],” said the secretary, who has had no contact on the issue from clubs.
