New bus service to loop Cavan urban area

A new bus service will deliver passengers to the front door of Cavan General Hospital, a public meeting has heard.
On Thursday the Public Participation Network (PPN) Linkage Group met in the old library reference building in Cavan Town to discuss social inclusion when transport and accessibility became focuses.
Social Inclusion Officer Emer Coveney told those present that funding had been secured for the “Cavan urban loop”, a six-day-a-week service and that the “local link” transport service should improve.
Bob Gilbert of the Older Person’s Forum said that the service could be lost if it was not used. “It’s a case of use it or lose it,” he said. “We’ve got to ensure it’s used in the morning and evening in particular [by workers].”

Three key sites
The group heard that one of the services will run from Ballyhaise, through the Cavan Town and on to Liberty Insurance and that it was planned to go every 30 minutes.
Daniel Downey of the PPN said that it would take passengers “to three key front doors in the hospital, the institute and the bus station”.
Progress is expected to be made on the new services from August.
