And they're off! Swimmers braved the cold for the 48th consecutive Christmas Day Icebreakers at Annagh Lake.

Swimmers to brave waters across the county in Christmas Day swims

It’s that time of year again when on Christmas morning, instead of tucking into hot punch and mince pies, the hardy swimmers from Cavan Icebreakers Swimming Club, joined by many other brave swimmers from Cavan Town and county, will be entering the waters of Annagh Lake, Butlersbridge, to celebrate their 49th annual Christmas morning swim-in-a-row.
The swim will start at 11.30am sharp and all swimmers taking part are advised to arrive at the swim by 11am. Both the ladies and men’s records for swims in a row will be published in the report after the swim.
There will also be a trophy for the youngest boy and the youngest girl to take part.
All parents of young children participating in the swim are asked to have the name and age of the child given to the secretary of Cavan Icebreakers, Jacinta Dunleavy, by 11am in order to be entered for the youngest boy/girl to take part in the swim.
This year no t-shirts or towels will be permitted in the group photograph on swimmers who are asked to please be aware of this and remove all t-shirts, towels and hoodies before lining up for group photograph.
Cavan Gardaí and Civil Defence will be in attendance at the swim. Everybody attending is asked to please co-operate with the Gardaí in relation to parking.
A raffle will be held before the swim starts, so please bring along your spare change.
So please come along and give your support on Christmas morning to the brave swimmers at Annagh Lake. Who knows Santa might drop in for a dip on his way home to the North Pole after his hard night’s work!
Cavan Icebreaker’s Swimming Club wish to state that all swimmers taking part in the swim do so at their own risk and to remind everyone to please take care of their personal items and equipment at the swim as Cavan Icebreaker’s Swimming Club take no responsibility for loss or damage to personal items or equipment.
