Mullagh man urges support for IMNDA fundraiser

A Mullagh man, battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND), is urging people to support the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) Summer Gala Ball in Kells this June.

Andrew Brennan, who will celebrate his 34th birthday with his wife Yvonne Doherty Brennan and their two little girls Aoife (3) and Sophie (2) next Tuesday, March 28, is helping to promote the special fundraiser.
From Greaghlough, Mullagh, Andrew was diagnosed with MND just over two years ago on February 26 and, last June, we highlighted his positivity in dealing with the disease. “I am very much looking forward to attending the ball. I am more than happy to help the organisers promote the event. All the funds raised will go to the Association to help and support people like myself, who have the condition,” he said.
Andrew said of his condition that, since he promoted the association's tea party nationally last June, his walking has deteriorated. 'I have to use a walking stick most times. I do need a lot of assistance now with accessing toilet and shower facilities. The Motor Neurone Association has been fantastic and I am only beginning to see the benefits of the specialised equipment they supply,” he said.
A machine has just recently been supplied to assist him with his breathing.
A newspaper printer by trade, Andrew originally served his time in the Meath Chronicle and worked in a number of companies subsequently to that. His last job was in Drogheda, which he unfortunately had to give up just over two years ago when he was first diagnosed.
“My wife Yvonne is my carer. Her employer Tully Bookmakers have been very good in giving her time off to care for me, as the condition progresses. At present it would be almost impossible to put a sandwich together. It is fantastic to have my wife by my side,” said Andrew.

Summer ball

The Summer ball will be hosted in the Headford Arms in Kells on Friday, June 23, and will kick off with a Prosecco reception from 7.30pm. The MC for the evening will be Miriam O’Callaghan and the talented Ronan Collins and his Band will be providing the music.
There will be a raffle and auction on the night with lots of fabulous spot prizes and, if there is a business out there that would like to sponsor a prize, the organising committee would love to hear from you.
The IMNDA is a primary support organisation in Ireland providing care for people with MND, their families and their carers. Everyone involved in organising the ball know at first hand the importance of the IMNDA and the services they provide.
