Insomnia get go ahead to move into NIB

The former National Irish Bank property at No1 Main Street, Cavan town looks set to take on a new lease of life as Cavan County Council have granted permission for a change of use. Coffee chain Insomnia had sought permission for the change of use from "banking use to coffee shop use".

Insomnia also looked for alterations to the shopfront, including the installation of new glazed windows and entrance doors, and new fascia signage and downlights. The local authority arrived at the decision to grant permission for the new use of the protected structure subject to 11 conditions.
The conditions attached include that all works are overseen by an accredited conservation architect and that the works are undertaken by a skilled person with relevant expertise. The council demand that the finishes are submitted with a list of sources of materials.
Other conditions relate to the use of the premises, the control of odour emissions, litter and signage.
The developer must submit a construction management plan and ensure that there are no pavement or structural damages during the development. The final conditions relate to water and waste water treatment.
Ireland's largest coffee chain, Insomnia, is chaired by businessman Bobby Kerr. Mr Kerr was in the county earlier this year when he attended the Arva Enterprise Event.
Cavan County Council planning department have also granted permission for a fully serviced two storey office unit, a storage unit and builders storage yard and four warehouse or light industrial units in a block at Century Business Park, Annagelliff, Dublin Road, Cavan.
The permission also allows the developer, Pale Purple Ltd, to connect to the existing services, access off the service roads, provide parking and all associated works. It was granted subject to 11 conditions.
Pale Purple Ltd made the application last June and the planning department of the local authority came to its decision this week.
