Jiving Champions to share secrets to their dancing success

A young Cavan couple's passion for dancing has took them from dancing on the streets of Kilnaleck to RTE's studio where they were crowned Late Late Show's jiving champions. And now Mairead Gaffney and Craig Lovett are happy to pass on the tricks of the dancing trade to Cavan's novices.

You may also recognise Craig and Mairead as the Cavan jiving couple who’ve been entertaining us in the trolley cam Lidl ads.

The pair will run five week jiving classes in two venues over the coming months. Classes in St. Joseph's Hall, Ballyjamesduff from Tuesday 19th September at 8.30pm. In Navan, classes will be in O'Mahoney's GAA from Thursday 21st September at 8.30pm. Partners are not necessary.

Mairead and Craig are tapping in to the renewed interest in jiving which has swept the nation, hand-in-hand with the resurgence of country music. The pair will be familiar to dance fans having become the Late Late Show's inaugural jiving champions earlier this year, and the County Clare Jiving Competition. “We go to dances all around the country,” enthused Mairead. W”We dance in the kitchen, or on the farm, or on the street in Kilnaleck, wherever – wherever there's music. We both enjoy it, and I always maintain, dancing is as good for the head as it is for the feet.”
