Local group water schemes get funding boost

Cavan and Monaghan rural water schemes will receive investment totalling over €600,000, it was announced today.
Cavan County Council is being granted €290,000, while Monaghan County Council is to receive €340,000 as part of funding being allocated under the Government’s Rural Water Programme. This funding forms the initial block grant under Measure 2 of the Government’s Rural Water Programme and will be used for works to enhance existing group water schemes in Cavan and Monaghan.

The funding allocations were announced by Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy.

Local senator, Joe O’Reilly welcomed the news:  “With group water schemes being so important for communities across the entirety of Cavan and Monaghan, this funding is vital in terms of their upkeep, and ensuring the proper infrastructure is in place to make sure our water supply is safe, clean, and to avoid leaks occurring.

“Minister Eoghan Murphy has also informed me that more allocations are to be made under this programme in due course.”
