Motorists urged to be vigilant on icy roads

 

Cavan Gardai have issued a warning to motorists to be wary while driving in difficult conditions. As a blanket of snow covers Cavan a number of road traffic accidents have been reported across the county.

Cavan Gardaí say they have attended at a number of incidents this (Wednesday 30) morning.

One incident in Killydooon saw a motorists collide with two parked vehicles. Gardai, ambulance and fire service attended at the scene. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution, but there were no major injuries.

In another on the R154 Kilnaleck to Ballinagh Road a SUV went off the road, while incidents on the R195 Virginia to Ballyjamesduff have also been reported.

With conditions expected to deteriorate in the late evening and overnight Gardaí are urging vigilance to motorists who have to undertake any essential travel.

Met Eireann issued a nationwide 'Status Yellow' snow-ice weather warning. It will last until the weekend. Forecasters updated the warning with more information shortly after 10am this morning, and are due to review it again tomorrow morning.
