County Ploughing Championships set for Cornafean

This year the 38th annual Co Cavan Ploughing Championships will take place on Bank Holiday, Monday, May 6 at MacSeain’s of Cornafean.

The site has hosted vintage ploughing competitions in the past and promises to be an ideal site for the All Ireland qualifying rounds.

Competitors are expected to travel from all over Ireland on the day to take part along with competitors from Cavan. The winners from Co Cavan will be going forward to represent the county in the All Ireland Championships in Ballintrane, Co Carlow from September 17-19.

Of course the ploughing will be just one of the many attractions at this family friendly event, which looks set to be blessed with fabulous weather. There will be a bouncy castle for the children, a dog show, live music, trade stands, most appropriately dressed lady and gent competitions, car boot sale, and even celebrity ploughing.

The dogs will be judged by Ralph Dunne from Belturbet who won Best of Breed in Crufts 2017 with his clumber spaniel Eldridge. Owners of dogs can enter the competition on the day. Live music and dancing will be provided by the JJ’s and special guest appearance by Ciaran Rosney who will demonstrate his ploughing skills and will take to the stage at approximately 3.00 p.m.

Refreshments will be available on the field all day. All gate proceeds will be donated to Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care. It all it makes for a good family day out.

For further information on trade stands please contact Samuel Thompson (Secretary) 086 8226879 or Patrick Donnellan (Chairman) 087 6114250.
