Cavan-Belturbet latest tallies

The latest tallies for Cavan-Belturbet LEA show a tight and fragmented vote with just 44% of boxes opened.

Former Cathaoirleach Madeleine Argue (FG) is out ahead on 690 votes tallied, or 16%, alongside Fianna Fail’s Patricia Walsh (729/17%) who is looking to take a seat she failed to get back in 2014.

The former urban councillor for the Cavan Town area only lost out in the final count last time, to Sean Smith (FF), currently on 394/10%, and Eugene Greenan (SF). Greenan quit the party two years ago in acrimonious circumstances, and in his place SF co-opted Daniel Downey (300/7%). His runningmate, Damien Brady (SF) is on 280/7%, as is Fine Gael’s Peter McVitty (292/7%).

Fianna Fáil’s John Paul Feeley continues to do well, at 411/10%. He took, as expected, some 80% of the vote when boxes were opened in Blacklion. It's a similar outcome so far for Sean Smith (FF), on 394/10%.

Newcomers Liam Van Der Spek for Labour is on 312/7%, PBP’s Emmett Smith is on 333/8%, and Independent Belturbet man Brendan Fay is on 300/7%.

Former Cathaoirleach, Fine Gael’s Sean McKiernan is propping up the rest of the pack, cut adrift on 110/3%.
