Cavan woman wins SdVP Volunteer award

A Cavan woman has been honoured for her volunteer work with St Vincent de Paul.

Pauline Lynch from Cavan Town was selected from a wide field of regional volunteers in the North East Midlands region, and announced as winner at the Society’s 4th National Retail Conference at the University of Limerick on Monday last, June 10.

The event was attended by staff and volunteers from the network of 230 Vincent’s shops, including the Cavan store manager, Eimear Hannigan.

She and other members at the Bridge Street shop surprised Pauline on Thursday morning with news of her prize, which included a small Newbridge silver clock, and a certificate confirming her achievement.

Pauline is one of more than 40 volunteers who willingly give of their time to help support the local charitable organisation.

“I'm absolutely delighted,” Pauline simply put, thanking Eimear and the her volunteers for putting her name forward for the accolade.

Eimear explained that there are 36 Vincent's stores in the North East Midlands region alone, adding: “We were absolutely delighted when [Pauline] won.”

Eimear spoke too of the importance of organisations like St Vincent de Paul to have volunteers like Pauline and the rest of the team.

“They're the heart and soul of our shop. All of our volunteers, the majority of them work in the shop front and they are the face of our shop. Pauline, even if she's not here, she's being asked for. The shop is a community.”
