Heavy rain on the way

As the country looks to be hit by heavy rainfall Cavan may escape the worst of it if Met Eireann predictions are accurate.

This week the weather forecasters issued a number of weather warnings. The latest, a Status Yellow rainfall warning, say Munster and Leinster and will subject to heavy rains from 7.00pm today (Thursday, August 8) until 7.00am on Friday morning

Met Éireann predict the heavy rain will spread south on Thursday evening and into the night. There's a chance of accumulations of between 25mm and 40mm of rain during this period.

Spot flooding is likely to occur in these areas. For Ulster the metrological service say there will be heavy and persistent rain, with 4.6mm falling at around 2.00am. The rain will become widespread early tonight and continue through the night. Lowest temperatures of 13 or 14 degrees, with fresh easterly breezes becoming southeasterly.

That heavy and persistent rain is expected to clear early Friday morning, followed by clear spells and showers from the south.
