Three arrested after false imprisonment incident

A man (25) will appear before a sitting of the District Court later this morning charged in connection with the false imprisonment and assault of a person in Co Cavan last week.

The incident is understood to have occurred between October 17 and 20, where a male aged 19, and believed to be from the Dublin area, was held against their will.

Gardaí made the arrest after the appearance of a video which had been circulating on social media messaging apps.

Another male and a female, both aged in their 20's, were also arrested on Monday last, October 21 on suspicion of an offense under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

All three were subsequently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in the North-East.

A 25 year old male was charged yesterday evening, October 22.

He is scheduled to appear before Monaghan District Court, at 10.30, today Wednesday, October 23.

The other two arrested persons have been released, and a file will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 19-year-old male is meanwhile being treated at a hospital, also in the North-East.

Gardaí would like to remind the public of their commitment to combat online criminal activity and encourage any members of the public who view such offending material to refer to their local Garda Station.
