Quinn claims safety leadership award

Quinn Building Products has picked up a major industry award for their work in the area of health and safety. The Derrylin based company claimed the 2019 MPQC trophy for Behavioural Safety, Culture and Leadership, at the Mineral Products Association (MPA) Health and Safety Awards in London.

Quinn’s Health and Safety Manager, Gerry Clancy, was also recognised for his personal contribution to health and safety with an individual award at the event.

The Mineral Products Association is the trade association for the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar and silica sand industries.

The MPA Awards, held annually alongside the trade association’s conference, celebrate the health and safety achievements of companies in associated industries.

The Quinn Building Products awards success was a result of the Quinn Safety Hub, an innovative health and safety management system Quinn launched in 2018. It has gained widespread recognition as a 'best in class' safety initiative.

Quinn were the only Northern Ireland company to make it through to the MPA UK finals in the Behavioural Safety, Safety Culture and Leadership Award category. The entry was subject to a site visit by a judge appointed by the MPA, who attended the Quinn facilities earlier in the year, to see the Safety Hub in practice and to interview a number of personnel about the set up and impact of the initiative.

The MPA Health and Safety Awards are a prestigious industry awards scheme, which recognise excellence in health and safety practice and standards by organisations and individuals within the sector. The Behavioural Safety, Safety Culture and Leadership Award is awarded to the organisation for the best initiatives that clearly demonstrate influence over any aspect of a behavioural safety program or improvement in safety culture, demonstrating strong and effective leadership.

Speaking about the awards success, Quinn’s Health and Safety Manager, Gerry Clancy, commended the safety culture of Quinn employees: “It is a great achievement to be recognised in these very prestigious awards and it is testament to our commitment to continual improvement in our drive to ensure the safest possible working environment for everyone here at Quinn.

“The response to our new Safety Hub has been extremely positive and we’re very happy to collaborate with the industry and showcase this as a best practice digital innovation in the health and safety space. I’m truly honoured to be recognised with an individual award today, and to represent the team behind this very successful health and safety initiative,” he concluded.
