Gardaí warm of scam callers

Gardaí in Cavan-Monaghan are alerting members of the public as scam calls continue across the region.
The most recent reports involve two scam calls from a person purporting to be from Amazon. But, unfortunately for the unwitting fraudster, the calls were made directly to Castleblayney Garda Station.
The caller, it's understood, went on to say there was an account problem and, in order to resolve the issue, personal information was required. “Hang up was swift when it was discovered it was the Garda Station,” a garda spokesperson has said.

North of the Border has been similarly blighted, with the PSNI warning of calls from an automated voice posing as HMRC. “The message claims that you will be arrested if you don’t pay 'over due taxes'. Please don’t fall victim to this. If you’ve received a call like this, report it to your telephone provider and get the number blocked. Don’t call the number back.”
