New fire station for Bally'duff approved

Part 8 of the planning process to design and construct a new two-bay two-storey fire station in Ballyjamesduff has been formally approved.

The proposal was formally sanctioned at a meeting of the local Municipal District which convened in the Hotel Kilmore last Wednesday morning (February 27).

Details of the project were outlined by the MD Manager and Senior Executive Engineer, Brendan Smith.

Approval was proposed by Fine Gael's Trevor Smith and seconded by his council and party colleague T. P. O'Reilly.

The new fire station complex will consist of two bays, and be constructed on a greenfield site at Rassan Road, Derrylurgan, on the outskirts of the town.

The ground floor will consists of a two bay appliance room and accommodation quarters, while the first floor will feature training and service rooms, canteen facilities.

The state-of-the-art facility will also include a drill tower, drill yard, boundary walls, parking areas, landscaping and all associated site works.

Director of Services, Eoin Doyle said the development acknowledges the great work being done by the Chief Fire Officer Noel O'Reilly and his staff. “The completion of the Fire Station in Virginia proved to be a fabulous development for the town and the improvement in Ballyjamesduff is now next in line.”

He added: “It is to be welcomed and we now need to move forward through the different stages and lobby politically for the further approvals that will allow for an early commencement of the works.”
