Monsignor Gerard Finegan

The death occurred in Florida of Monsignor Gerard Finegan late of 71 Main Street Cavan. Fr Gerry passed away on Monday, February, 3, 2020, surrounded by his sisters and close friends. Born in Cavan, Ireland to the parents of Joseph and Mary Finegan (deceased). Fr Gerry attended St Clare's, St Felim's, as well as St. Patrick's College in Cavan and Maynooth, Co Kildare.

In his youth Fr Gerry was in the Cavan Boy Scouts, played for Cavan Gaels football club, Cavan CYMS tennis club and St Patrick's college football team. Fr Gerry enjoyed cards, golf, and meeting with people especially family and friends.

He was ordained to the Priesthood on June 18, 1967 at St. Patrick's and Felim's Cathedral in Cavan, Ireland and was incardinated into the Diocese of Venice on October, 25 1984. Having served in the Diocese of Venice since its inception in 1984, he was Pastor of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish beginning in June 2008 until his retirement in November of 2019.

Prior to that he was Pastor of Incarnation Parish in Sarasota from 1976 to 2008. He also served at Parishes in Safety Harbor, Largo, and was Chaplain at Clearwater Catholic High School and Cardinal Mooney. Fr. Gerry is survived by his sisters: Mary Tunney, Aine Connolly, Catherine O'Leary, Brigid Duffy, Josephine Finegan, six nephews, six nieces, sixteen grand nephews, nine grand nieces, and countless friends.

There is a Memorial Mass for Fr Gerry on the Sunday, March 15, in the Cathedral Cavan.

 

Ned Connell

The death has occurred of Ned O'Connell, Beagh, Killinkere, Virginia, Co. Cavan, peacefully, at Cavan General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Miriam (nee Sheridan) and his brothers Peter, Phil, Mattie and Larry. Deeply regretted by his daughters Mary, Gemma, Alison, Anita and Rosaleen, sons in law, grand children, brothers Michael and Patsy, his sister Sr. Margaret Mary, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ned was a former player with Maghera Mac Finns and his daughter Anita and her family are very involved with the club.

Ned's funeral Mass took place yesterday (Monday) morning at 11 o'clock with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

 

Nora Martin (nee Beggins)

The death has occurred of Nora Martin (nee Beggins) 44 Drumbannon, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, died 2nd March 2020, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family in the Lisdarn Unit Cavan. Predeceased by her husband James. Sadly missed by her family, daughters Peggy, Kathleen, Mary, Theresa, Ann, Noreen, Eileen, Phyllis and Caroline, sons Christopher, Michael, Gerry and Paddy, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and extended family, neighbors and friends.

Reposing at Clarke’s Funeral Home, Bailieborough, tomorrow (Wednesday) from 3pm until 8pm. Removal from her residence on Thursday morning at 10.30am (on foot) to arrive at St Anne’s Church, Bailieborough, for funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in St Anne’s Cemetery. Family flowers only, please, donations in lieu, if desired, to The Lisdarn Unit Cavan c/o Clarke's Funeral Home, Bailieborough.

 

Kieran Fay

The death has occurred of Kieran Fay, Kilmessan, Co Meath and formerly Cappaghmore, Clondalkin and Stradone, Co Cavan, February 29th 2020. Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in the care of the staff of St Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown. Beloved husband of Elma and much loved father of Niamh, Orla and Leona. Devoted granddad to Matthew, Jamie and the late Nicole. Kieran will be sadly missed by his loving wife, daughters, grandchildren, brothers, sisters , extended family, relatives , neighbours and friends.

Reposing at Massey Bros funeral home, Clondalkin Village, today (Tuesday) between 5pm and 7pm with prayers at 5pm. Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning at 10am in The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Clondalkin, followed by cremation at Newlands Crematorium. Adriana Donohoe (née Monteiro)

The death has occurred of Adriana Donohoe (née Monteiro) 18 Cul Lana, Kilnaleck, Co Cavan. Wednesday February 19th (suddenly) in Brazil. Sadly missed by her loving husband Niall, daughter Danielle, son Daniel, mother, sisters, brothers and her extended family in Ireland and Brazil.

Reposing at her home, 18 Cul Lana, Kilnaleck (A82 V3P4) this Wednesday (4th March) from 5pm to 10pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday (5th March) in St. Patrick's Church, Kilnaleck at 11am. Burial afterwards in St. Mary's Cemetery, Crosserlough.


P.J. Mc Cabe,

The death has occurred of P.J. Mc Cabe, Cornamagh, Kingscourt, Co Cavan, peacefully, at Cavan General Hospital, Monday, 2nd March 2020. Predeceased by his father Thomas, brother Sean and his infant sister Bridget. Deeply regretted by his mother Annie, brother Thomas, sisters Veronica, Una, Ann-Marie, Rosaleen and Marguerite, brothers-in-law,sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives & friends.

Reposing at Kieran Bros. Funeral Home, Hall St, Kingscourt (Eircode A82 R3W2) until 8pm today (Tuesday) March 3. Funeral Mass on Thursday morning, March 5, at 10 am in The Church of the Immaculate Conception with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Farrell McElgunn

The death has occurred of Farrell McElgunn, Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim (N41 X089), late of Belturbet, Co Cavan. Former member of Leitrim County Council, Seanad Éireann, and European Parliament. Peacefully, in Mullingar Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Mary, and his sisters Anna, Mairéad and Mary. Much loved father of Máire (Carndonagh), Róisín (Aughavas), Liam (Carrick), Bríd (Coolaney), Fergal (Curraghroe) and Rónan (Carrick). Deeply regretted by his brothers Seán, Liam, Jim, sisters Bridie, Eileen and Rosaleen, his grandchildren, daughters in law, sons in law, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends, and the wonderful staff of Laurel Lodge Nursing Home, Longford.

Reposing at his residence tomorrow (Wednesday) March 4, from 2pm to 5pm with removal to St. Mary's Church, Carrick-on-Shannon, arriving at 7pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday, 5th March, at 12 noon, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

 

Julia Agnes O'Reilly

The death has occurred of Julia Agnes O'Reilly (née Galligan), Dernacross, Killeshandra, County Cavan, 2nd March 2020, peacefully at Cavan General Hospital, Julia Agnes, in her 101st year. Predeceased by her husband Michael and very sadly missed by her daughter Catherine (Olwill) and son Tom, son-in-law John Olwill, grand-daughters Karina and Caroline, extended family, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Removal from her home tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, March 4, at 10.30am to St. Brigid's Church, Killeshandra, for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

House private to family and close friends only please.


Kathleen McNamara (née Smith)

The death has occurred of Kathleen McNamara (née Smith) Athbara, Cavan. Beloved wife of the late Bud, Cavan Town and mother of the late Tom, Annaglough, Cavan, Sunday March 1st 2020, peacefully, in the loving care of the staff at College View Nursing Home, Cavan. Loving mother of John (Sligo), Mary (Dublin) and Breda (Donegal). Sadly missed by her loving family, daughters-in-law Maureen and Noreen, sons-in-law Fergus and Gerard, her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all her relatives and many friends.

Reposing at her home H12 NW82 today (Tuesday, March 3) from 12 noon until 9pm. Removal on Wednesday morning from her home to the Cathedral of Ss Patrick & Felim, Cavan, arriving for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Burial after Mass in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Killygarry. Family time on Wednesday morning, please.
