INTO welcomes decision to close schools

The reaction to the containment of the Covid-19 virus continues, with General Secretary of the INTO welcoming the decision by the government to close all primary schools in the country until almost the end of the month.

The decision was taken as the government announced a series of measures aimed at addressing the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ireland. Effective from 6pm this evening, until the 29 March, all primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and universities and also childcare facilities in Ireland will be closed.

This important and timely decision, in light of a growing public health crisis, is welcome. INTO will be attending a briefing with the Department of Education and Skills this afternoon. I know our members will all rise to the challenge we face, in the proudest tradition of our profession, as we grapple with this unprecedented public health crisis,” INTO General Secretary John Boyle said.
