Libraries, museum and theatres to close

Following the Government statement this morning, Cavan County Council will close all library branches, Ramor and Town Hall Cavan theatres, and Cavan County Museum.

The restrictions, to help prevent further spread of the Covid-19 virus, is effective from 6pm this evening, Thursday, March 12.

The restrictions will remain in place until March 29.

Schools, colleges and childcare facilities are also set to close over that same period.

The Government announcement was that any indoor gatherings comprising 100 people or more, and outdoor events of 500 people or more, will also be cancelled during this time.

The Customer Service Desk in Johnston Central Library, Cavan Town, and Municipal District Offices in Cootehill, Ballyconnell, and Virginia will however remain open.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “The public is reminded, however, that payments (e.g. rent, rates, planning contributions) and general queries can be made through the council’s phone switchboard on 049 437 8300.”

They add that Cavan County Council has a “business continuity plan” in place, which will ensure that critical services remain open as the current situation develops. “Council management will continue to monitor the situation and co-ordinate with national and local stakeholders to determine the appropriate response.”
