Community helpline for virus supports

Community helpline for virus supports

A new dedicated helpline, freephone 1800 300 404, is available to offer assistance to isolated and/or vulnerable members of the community in County Cavan during the COVID-19 emergency.
If you need help - or if you know of a neighbour, relation, or individual in your community who may require assistance - please call the number.
Phone lines are open from 8am-8pm, seven days a week, and an email helpline is available at covidsupport@cavancoco.ie
The helpline has been set up by Cavan County Council, through the Cavan COVID-19 Community Response Forum, a collaborative effort bringing together a wide range of local stakeholders, who can assist vulnerable or isolated citizens with:
- Collection and delivery of food, essential household items, fuel, medication;
- Transport to community testing centres, clinical assessment hubs, GP and hospital appointments;
- Social Isolation supports and engagement;
- Meals and their delivery; and
- Other medical/health needs.

Assistance

Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, Tommy Ryan, said: “I would urge anyone in need of assistance, whether they are self-isolating, have other health issues, or no access to transport, to get in touch and call this helpline.
“We in Cavan County Council are aware of the fantastic work that is being done at a local level by volunteers, be it neighbours, community groups, GAA clubs, or the Church, and this new helpline will allow us to assist these efforts, by directing support to those who need it.”
Local COVID-19 Community Response Fora have been initiated in every county at the instigation of the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, with local authorities acting as lead agency, co-ordinating the tremendous volunteer effort.
Participants in the COVID-19 Cavan Community Response Forum include: Cavan County Council, including Cavan County Fire Service; Health Service Executive; An Garda Síochána; An Post; Cavan Monaghan ETB; Civil Defence; Cavan GAA County Board; Cavan Public Participation Network (representing over 280 community/voluntary groups); Cavan County Local Development; Local Link; Cavan Citizens’ Information; Cavan Volunteer Centre; Irish Farmers’ Association, Cavan;   Cavan Cross Cultural Committee; Cavan Age Friendly Network; Cavan Traveller Movement; Diocese of Kilmore; Diocese of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh; Other community, voluntary and sports representatives.
