Ballinagh brothers remanded in custody after one allegedly spat at garda

A Cavanman, accused of coughing at a garda and claiming he has Coronavirus in the early hours of this morning, has been remanded in custody. Craig Donegan of Seangharrai, Ballinagh, was among three men arrested following a public order incident in Ballinagh at around 3am this morning, Sunday, April 12, 2020. He was arrested and taken to Cavan Garda Statio where it is alleged he coughed at a garda member and stated he had Coronavirus. Mr Donegan appeared before a special sitting of Cavan District Court today (Sunday) charged with public order offences. They include intoxication in a public place, engaging in threatening or abusive behaviour, and failing to comply with a Garda direction. The defendant was further accused of assaulting a peace officer by coughing at them at Cavan Garda Station following arrest. His brother Jason Donegan, also in his 20s and with an address at Seangharrai, was also arrested in relation to the same incident and appeared in court charged with public order offences. Both men were remanded in custody to appear before Cavan District Court again this Thursday. It’s understood that the third man, in his 40s, was released with an adult caution.
