Shamrocks' Kickathon raises €20k for local charity

Bailieborough members turn out in force

Bailieborough Shamrocks have raised in excess of €20,000 after they held a 24-hour Kickathon in aid of local charity Bailieborough Cancer Comfort Ltd on Saturday, Jun 27 last.

The Kickathon entailed 48 teams of four kick-passing a ball for 30 minutes.

“We felt that we are always looking for sponsorship and lotto sales so now was our time to give something back to the community,” stated club PRO Eileen Clarke.

Bailieborough Cancer Comfort are a free and confidential service who transport patients to and from appointments and treatment.

“Like everything else no event or fundraiser happens by chance, it is down to hard work from a group of people and in our case these people were John Donnellan, Christopher Dunne, Rhys Clarke, Gavin Mackey and Vincent Kelly.

“These lads left no stone unturned to make sure a very successful fundraiser took place, they obtained help from both the senior men and senior ladies to supervise and make sure that all Covid-19 regulations were adhered at all times.

Oliver Tierney conducted interviews over the two days that Michael Lyster would be proud of and local businesses also donated refreshments. Videos of support were sent from Shamrocks who are all over the world as well as celebrities including, Seamus O'Rourke, Colm O'Rourke, Ian Lloyd Anderson and John Cronin to name a few.

This event would not have been possible without the people who took part in what was miserable, wet conditions but it never dampened their spirits.

“The buzz around St. Anne's Park was incredible. There has been in excess of €20,000 raised so far and still time for more donations to come in as the GoFundMe page will remain open for a little while longer.

“We are completely blown away by people's generosity and we thank everyone who had contributed worldwide. We have a fine facility in St. Anne's Park and we would like to see it used by the entire community.”
