More drugs seized in Longford

During the course of the search €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb was found, along with €16,000 worth of suspected cocaine, and €16,000 worth of suspected ecstasy tablets.

Cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis worth €52,000 has been seized by gardaí in Longford.

The drugs were found by members of the Longford/Roscommon Divisional Drugs Unit who were carrying out a search of farmlands in the Ballinalee area at approximately 10pm last night, Thursday July 16.

During the course of the search €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb was found, along with €16,000 worth of suspected cocaine, and €16,000 worth of suspected ecstasy tablets.

All drugs are subject to analysis.

No arrests have been made to date and investigations are ongoing.

It is the second major seizure in the county in as many days after approximately €50,000 worth of drugs was found during a search operation in Shroid, Co. Longford on Wednesday, July 15.

A vehicle was stopped and searched by Gardaí attached to the Longford and Roscommon Divisional Drugs Unit at 8.30pm where they found suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €20,000 and suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €30,000.

A man, aged in his 60s, was subsequently arrested at the scene and taken to Longford Garda Station, where he was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act), 1996.
