Landowners asked to check land after ATM raid

Several thousand euros worth of damage was caused by the brazen gang which gained access to the premises by breaking through the roof of the Applegreen fuel station on the Dublin Road outside Cavan Town on Thursday last, July 16.

Local landowners are being asked by gardaí investigating the theft of cash from a service station ATM last week to check their fields for items removed from the shop and subsequently discarded by the gang.

Several thousand euros worth of damage was caused by the brazen gang which gained access to the premises by breaking through the roof of the Applegreen fuel station on the Dublin Road outside Cavan Town on Thursday last, July 16.

Cigarettes were taken during the incident which is believed to have taken place between 12.30am and 1.30am.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident at around 6am.

Gardaí are already appealing for witnesses, including those who passing the site who may have been operating dash-cams, to assist them with their enquiries.

Now gardaí are also asking farmers in the are to get involved.

In a post circulated on social media at the weekend, gardaí said they are “particularly interested” in locating a number of items that were removed from the shop that “may have been discarded in the local area. If you are a landowner or walking in the area and you come across any items which appear to be misplaced the Gardaì in Cavan would appreciate a call on 049 4368800.”
