Parishes take over youth sacrament preparation

The Diocese of Kilmore has divested the responsibility of helping local sixth class pupils prepare to receive Confirmation to individual parish communities.

Many due to receive the Sacrament earlier this year were left disappointed after ceremonies were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

However, with the lifting of some restrictions, preparations for receiving the sacrament have resumed.

Where preparations were previously completed by pupils within the school environment, this role is now being undertaken by volunteers within parishes.

As this is happening, Confirmations are being scheduled across the Diocese. Some were already celebrated last weekend.

Due to current restrictions, numbers at services will be limited and strict social distancing measures in place.

Confirmation will take place in Bunnoe on Saturday, August 1, and in Drung on Saturday, August 8 (both at 12 noon); for Lacken NS pupils in St Michael’s Church, Potahee, on Friday, August 7, 7pm and for Bruskey NS on Saturday, August 8, 12 noon, in St Mary’s Church; in St Mary’s Church, Killinkere, on Saturday, August 8, at 12 noon; Aughadreena NS in St Dympna's Church Upper on Sunday, August 16 (3pm); Maudabawn chapel on Friday, August 21 (6pm); Killeshandra and Corliss schools on Saturday, August 22 (3pm); Killyconnan NS on Sunday, August 23 (3pm) in St. Dympna's Church Lower; also Church of the Sacred Heart, Arvagh, Sunday, August 23 (3pm); Clifferna on Friday, September 4 (6pm); Laragh on Friday, September 11 (6pm).
