Yellow warning in place for six counties

Cavan is expected to miss out on the worst of the weather as Met Éireann issued a weather warning for six counties.

The Status Yellow rainfall warning is in place for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.

The warning for Clare, Cork and Kerry is in place until 12pm tomorrow. The metrological service say heavy rain this evening, tonight and tomorrow morning will give accumulations of 20 to 40mm, with potentially higher amounts in mountainous areas. As soils are saturated from recent rainfall this additional rainfall will lead to spot flooding.

The warning for Donegal, Galway and Mayo is valid until 1pm tomorrow. There heavy rain with additional accumulations of 20 to 40mm expected. Spot flooding possible.

Motorists have been advised to be aware of poor visibility and driving conditions.

Met Éireann said heavy and persistent rain in the northwest will slowly spread southeast today.
