Football action resumes with four matches tonight

Friday night preview

Action in the fourth weekend of the club football championships gets underway again this evening with four matches down for decision.

In the Intermediate Championship, Killeshandra and Ballymachugh face off under lights in Our Lady of Lourdes Park, Mullahoran.

The Leaguers, who recently welcomed back key man Declan McKiernan after a period overseas, had a disappointing loss to Ballyhaise last time out while the Hughs were beaten by eight by Ballyhaise.

Both sides will be determined to pick up a victory this evening, with Kileshandra looking to the likes of McKiernan and Paddy King, who scored a goal last time out, while for Ballymachugh, Killian Smith and Mark Kiernan will be among the main scoring threats.

In Kingspan Breffni, high-flying Butlersbridge take on Ramor United’s second string. The Virginia men boast a mix of youth and experience, with former senior stars Shane Cole, Stefan Connolly and Paddy McNamee among the go-to men while Sean Brady bagged two goals last weekend in their impressive win over Drumgoon.

However, the ‘Bridge will be favourites, with the likes of brothers Caoímhín and Fionntáin O’Reilly in fine form up front.

Elsewhere, in the Cully's Craft Bakery JFC, Kildallan meet Redhills in Bawnboy in a must-win game for both sides, who each suffered defeats last time out. Redhills will start as favourites, with former county men Turloc Mooney, Rory Dunne and Packie Leddy expected to lead the way.

Kildallan have lost some personnel from last year but have an outstanding inside forward in MacRory Cup winner Ryan O’Neill. However, an improvement will be needed if the Ballyconnell men are to trouble the Bryan Bates-managed border side.

Finally, in Mullagh, Munterconnaught take on Maghera in a local derby. The Munchies had a fine win over Kildallan last weekend, with the towering Shane Hanley landing 0-5, and they will be expected to have too much for their neighbours, who are reliant on youngster Michael Muldoon to do much of their scoring.
