A native of Coppenagh in the parish of Lurgan (Virginia), Fr P.J. as he was fondly known, was ordained in the College Chapel of St. Patrick’s College in Maynooth on June 17, 1956.

After a brief first assignment in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, he returned to Ireland where he remained for the rest of his ministry.

His years in the priesthood took him to many different Kilmore parishes, first as CC in Denn (1957-63), Drumlane (1963-76), and Maudabawn (1976-85), and then as Parish Priest in Ballaghameehan (1985-92). Then his long pastoral sojourn in Belturbet came into view, as he was appointed Parish Priest in Annagh in 1992.

In 2004, he assumed the role of curate in Belturbet and retired from active Ministry in 2013.

Diocesan Secretary Fr Donal Kilduff described the late Canon Corrigan as a “gentleman”.

“I have known him most of my life. He was well got in all the parishes he ministered and was sadly missed when he moved to a different parish.

“He loved walking and was highly involved in the Belturbet Walking group. He loved to stroll in Rosinver and one of his favourite possessions was a photograph of him standing at one of the waterfalls. He loved nature and walking in forests – he was amazing company to all who joined him on those walks and he contributed a lot of enlightenment on nature to that walking group, as did members of the groups to him”.

Canon P.J. passed away on the feast of St. Bartholomew the Apostle.
