Funding boost for local authority

Cavan County Council will benefit from a €1.5M allocation for footpath repairs and drainage works. The announcement by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Eamon Ryan, has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Deputy Brendan Smith.

A total of 28 projects will be funded through this allocation which forms part of the Government’s July Jobs Stimulus Package.

Deputy Smith said he has lobbied for the funding: “I raised this matter with the Minister for Public Expenditure, Michael McGrath TD. There is a need to provide funding to local authorities such as Cavan and Monaghan County Councils to enable them carry out road, footpath and drainage works which could be undertaken without delay and would help employment locally.”

Deputy Smith concluded by outlining how it will benefit local in the area: “This funding will ensure the provision of essential safety measures at a number of locations and homes will also be protected through drainage works.”
