Garda appeal after sheep stolen

The theft occurred between Sunday and Tuesday, August 9-11.

Gardaí in Cavan are appealing for information after 21 sheep were stolen from a farm near Bailieborough.

The livestock were taken from a farm in the townland of Farthadreen.

It’s believed the theft occurred between Sunday and Tuesday, August 9-11.

It is the largest single sheep theft to be reported in the region since 100 sheep were stolen from lands at Ross near Mountnugent back in June last year.

The thefts, at the time, followed the stealing of 25 cattle from a farm in Drumalish, near Castleblayney, and another reported theft north of the border in Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh, both in May, 2019.

Some 210 cattle were stolen from a single owner in Co Meath in November 2018, with the total number of livestock illegally taken for that year estimated at almost 350 nationally.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the Farthadreen area during the alleged theft period is asked to contact Gardaí at Bailieboro on 042-9694570.
