The PAC is a standing committee of Dáil Éireann which focuses on ensuring public services are run efficiently and achieve value for money.

The Committee of Public Accounts will this morning discuss the Comptroller and Auditor General’s 2019 accounts and reports for the Department of Finance, including Central Fund and Apple Escrow Account

Chaired by Deputy Brian Stanley, the meeting begins at 11.30am.

The PAC will hear from the C&AG, Seamus McCarthy, followed by the Secretary General, Derek Moran, and officials from the Department.

The accounts and reports to be examined are:

C&AG Appropriation Account 2019 Vote 7 (Office of the Minister for Finance);

Audited Financial Statements of the Exchequer for the Financial Year 1 January to 31 December 2019;

C&AG 2019 report – Chapter 1: Exchequer financial outturn for 2019;

C&AG 2019 report – Chapter 17: Ireland Apple escrow fund.

Deputy Stanley said: “The C&AG’s 2019 accounts and reports for the Department of Finance raise a number of important issues for the Committee, including a payment from the Central Fund made to Irish Water in 2019 and the reduction of €249 million last year in the net assets held in the Apple Escrow Account. The Committee looks forward to engaging with the Secretary General and his officials on these and other matters raised by the C&AG.”
