€40k cannabis seizure in Cavan Town

The search, gardaí say, was part of an “ongoing investigation” into the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the Cavan area.

A man has been charged before the courts after Gardaí seized €40,000 of cannabis in a raid at the weekend.

Officers attached to the District Drugs Unit were assisted by uniformed gardaí in executing the search warrant at a house in Cavan Town on Sunday last where the large quantity of suspected cannabis, pending analysis, was recovered.

One male, aged in his late 30's, was arrested at the scene.

He was subsequently detained for questioning at Cavan Garda Station, and later charged to relation to the find on directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The male appeared at a special sitting of the District Court this morning in Monaghan on Sunday.
