Weather: Mostly dry day ahead

Rain will gradually clear eastwards this morning. It will then be cloudy and mostly dry apart from some isolated patches of light rain or drizzle, according to the latest weather forecast from Met Éireann.

A breezy day with fresh to strong southwesterly winds and afternoon temperatures of 10 or 11 degrees.

Tonight will be cloudy, with rain in the northwest extending across Ulster overnight, but becoming lighter and patchier. Mild at first, but temperatures will fall to between 6 and 9 degrees by morning. Staying breezy with fresh southwesterly winds.

Tomorrow there will be a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, becoming more frequent in the afternoon. A cool day with highest afternoon temperatures of just 6 to 9 degrees, with light to moderate southwesterly winds.

The national outlook is for a cool and mostly dry on Sunday, but turning wet early next week with a slight increase in temperatures.

Saturday night will bring mostly dry with clear spells, although there will be some scattered showers in the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coldest in the south and east, with light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Sunday should remain largely dry with varying cloud cover, so there will be sunshine at times. There will be a few showers too, mainly affecting the west and northwest. It will be a cold day with afternoon temperatures of just 6 to 9 degrees, but light to moderate southwesterly winds continuing.

A dry night with clear spells countrywide at first, but cloud will increase overnight with some patchy rain reaching western coastal areas by morning. Temperatures will be similar to Saturday night, ranging 2 to 6 degrees, with fresh southerly winds developing in the west.

Rain in the west and northwest early Monday morning will spread across the country through the day and will be heavy at times. South to southwest winds will increase moderate to fresh and it will become milder, with afternoon temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.

Rain will continue in many areas through Monday night and will be heaviest and most persistent across the southern half of the country. Minimum overnight temperatures will range between 6 degrees in the northwest to 12 degrees in the southeast. Southwesterly winds will ease light to moderate in most places, but will stay fresh in the southeast.

Rain is likely to persist across the south during Tuesday, with drier but cloudy conditions further north. A cold day in most areas with afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees, but a few degrees higher in the south and southeast.
