Boost for Belturbet Park

The road at the Belturbet Business Park has been resurfaced and enhanced recently, delivering a welcome boost to the dynamic business community located there.

There are over 80 people employed by the various businesses in the park.

One such business is Alan Traynor Consulting Engineers. Alan thanked local councillor Brendan Fay for pushing the project to fruition with Cavan County Council.

Francis McDonald Engineering has been operating from the park for 11 years now and is also happy with upgrade to the road infrastructure.

Commenting on trading conditions during the pandemic, Francis said that business isn’t “too bad”, adding “we are doing the best we can in the time that is in it.”

Barry Fitzpatrick from Fitzpatrick Kitchens welcomed the recent investment going in the park and says the businesses there support one another.

“We have our showroom here for the past 14 years. One business lives off the other here.

When they [customers] come to us, they can end up also dealing with our next door neighbour. The range of businesses here all lend themselves to home improvements,” he remarked.

Padraig Fitzpatrick from Fitz Hire agreed it has been a “tough enough” year for businesses. “We closed for eight weeks with Covid but, since we opened up again, the business has been flying,” he revealed, adding that the ‘click and collect’ model is operating well..

“The couriers are busy delivering and also bringing stuff to us everyday,” said Padraig.

Jennifer O’Connor, administrator of ED Flooring, also said business was going well.

“We have been exceptionally busy throughout the COVID-19 period because we supply a special product to essential services such as schools, hospitals and dental practices,” she said.

The specialised commercial flooring is anti-bacterial and slip resistant, though the business also caters for the domestic market. The proprietor of the ED Flooring is Emmett Donohoe.

Jennifer thanked Cavan County Council for the Re-start grant after the lockdown.

“It made a massive difference opening up and to be able to carry on supplying the service we provide to essential services,” she said.

The completion of resurfacing works on the roads in the Industrial Park was welcomed by Cllr Brendan Fay (Ind). “This Business Park has been here the guts of 20 years. We had a recession, COVID-19, and these businesses are still standing tall,” he said.

Cllr Fay had a particular word of thanks for the local authority’s executive engineer for the area, Paul Mulligan.
