Weather: Wind and rain

Outbreaks of rain and strong winds this morning.

A status yellow wind warning remains in place for Leinster, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford with gusts of up to 100km/h.

It will remain in place until 9am this morning.

The rain will gradually ease and it will brighten up for a time in the afternoon with scattered showers. Some of the showers may merge to longer spells of rain in places during the late afternoon. Afternoon highs of 7 to 10 degrees in strong and gusty south to southwest winds.

Scattered showers continuing overnight with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees. Mostly moderate south to southwest breezes.

Tomorrow will bring a mix of sunny spells with isolated showers in the morning. However, cloud will increase from the west through the afternoon with outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending across the province by the evening. Afternoon highs of 7 to 11 degrees, but becoming milder through the evening in moderate to fresh, southerly winds.

Conditions over the next few days will remain unsettled with blustery showers and longer spells of rain at times and remaining mild in a mostly southerly airflow.

Rain will clear the northeast early on Thursday night. However, it will remain mostly cloudy with a further spell of persistent rain moving in from the west later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds.

Friday will be a relatively mild and wet day with bands of heavy and persistent rain pushing up across the country in moderate to fresh southerly winds, clearing to showers by the evening time. Highest afternoon temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees

Friday night is giving for blustery showers - heaviest and most frequent along Atlantic coasts in fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds. Remaining drier in the east with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees.

Saturday will bring sunny spells and scattered showers, most frequent and heaviest in the west. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.

On Saturday night, showers will continue to affect Atlantic coasts overnight. Clear spells elsewhere with lows of 5 to 7 degrees, in moderate southwesterly winds.

A dry start is forecast for much of the country on Sunday with some nice spells of sunshine. Scattered showers will move into the west through the afternoon in a moderate westerly wind. Afternoon highs of 7 to 9 degrees.

Further Outlook: Remaining unsettled but gradually turning a cooler as winds turn more northerly.
