Prof Hayes first to receive Covid vaccine in Cavan

Prof James Hayes was the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Cavan Hospital yesterday (Wednesday).

The Consultant Respiratory Physician was the first front-line health professional to received the Pfizer BioNTech jab in the hospital.

He got his vaccine, alongside his healthcare colleagues from Cavan Monaghan Hospital.

Prof Hayes was given a HSE vaccine information leaflet, along with more detailed manufacturer’s patient information leaflet, before getting the vaccine.

Afterwards, each person vaccinated was given a vaccine record card, showing the name and batch of the vaccine they have received. They will each return for their second dose, to be fully protected, in three weeks.

A spokesperson said: "This is very welcomed good news which Cavan Monaghan Hospital are proud to announce."

The rollout of the vaccines in nursing homes continues today with residents in Esker Lodge, Cavan and Breffni Care Centre, Ballyconnell, first on the list.
