MEP helps launch European Self Determination Caucus

The new Caucus has been set up in the context of the upcoming Conference of the Future Europe

Local MEP Chris MacManus has helped launched a new European Parliament Caucus which promotes the ideals of the right to self-determination.

Speaking at the launch from Brussels earlier this morning, Mr MacManus said: “A number of MEPs from different countries have come together to establish a new caucus in the European Parliament which will focus on the promotion of the right to self-determination.

He stated that the concept of the right to self-determination is one that has gained both prevalence and momentum in the past few years.

In the context of the upcoming Conference of the Future Europe, the caucus of MEPs has been established with the aim to advocate that people of these communities can exercise freely and democratically their right to self-determination in a legally recognised manner.

“In Ireland, the conversation around a referendum on Irish reunification has changed from if to when. The same is true for other countries and regions who wish to have a say on their futures.

“I am honoured to be taking part in this caucus and I am looking forward to its launch,” said the Sligo native.
