Post-mortems on Cloverhill couple due

Gardaí say the results of the post-mortem examination, along with toxicology tests, will determine what course their investigation will take.

Post-mortem examinations are to take place today on the bodies of a couple found dead at their rural Cavan home at the weekend.

The examinations of the bodies of Rolandas Jarmalvichius and his partner Rita Martinkiene, aged in their 40s and originally from Lithuania, is taking place at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan.

The couple, referred to locally as “hard working” but who “kept to themselves”, were found dead at the house they rented at Drumbrawn in Cloverhill at around 8pm on Sunday night.

They had been living in the area for around eight years and worked at an egg processing facility across the border in Co Fermanagh.

However, they had not been seen in days, or by family in several weeks, leading to concerns for their well-being.

Gardaí say the results of the post-mortem examination, along with toxicology tests, will determine what course their investigation will take.

One prominent line of enquiry being explored by investigating officers is that the couple may have died as a result of accidental poisoning.
