Operation Fanacht stops continue

Patrols and checkpoints continued over the weekend under 'Operation Fanacht' aimed at encouraging people to make only essential journeys.

Earlier this week, gardaí in Belturbet stopped a motorist while on patrol. A roadside drug test was carried out and the driver tested positive for cocaine. He was arrested and taken to Cavan Garda Station where a blood sample was obtained and court date will follow.

That same night a van was observed by Bailieborough Gardaí driving erratically.

The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Bailieborough Garda Station. Both occupants were also issued Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) for non essential journeys.
