Cold start but dry day ahead with sunny spells

Frost and fog will gradually lift this morning to leave a dry day with sunny spells. After a cold start, maximum afternoon temperatures will generally range 8 to 10 degrees in light easterly breezes.

The latest weather forecast from Met Éireann says it will be dry tonight with mostly clear skies and light winds. Fog and frost will form with minimum temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees.

The national weather forecaster is predicting a cold start to tomorrow (Wednesday) with frost and fog slowly clearing to leave another dry day with sunny spells. Maximum temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in light northeasterly winds.

Temperatures are set to turn colder over the coming days with a chance of some rain over the weekend.

Wednesday night is promised mostly dry overnight with a mix of cloud and clear spells. There'll be some mist patches and a slight frost will form where skies remain clear. Minimum temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees in light northeast breezes.

Rather cloudy on Thursday and feeling quite chilly in a moderate easterly breeze. Much of the country will be dry but there'll be a few light showers about. Highest temperatures generally ranging 5 to 8 degrees but reaching 9 or 10 degrees in southwest Munster. On Thursday night, it will be mostly dry with some clear spells but overall plenty of cloud. A few light showers in the east and south. Quite cold with minimum temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees with frost developing where skies remain clear.

On Friday, there will be a few light showers in the far southwest but elsewhere it will be dry with a mix of cloud and bright spells. A chilly day with maximum temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate southeast breezes. The bulk of the country will remain dry on Friday night but there is the chance of some patchy rain in the far southwest later in the night. Minimum temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees in moderate southeast winds.

Current indications suggest the weather will turn somewhat more mixed for the weekend with an increased chance of some rain or showers.

Lookin ahead to the weekend and, on Saturday, Pptchy rain will edge in from the Atlantic on Saturday but will fizzle out as it extends eastwards over the country with many central and eastern counties expected to hold dry with some sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in moderate southeast winds.

Early indications suggest there'll be some showery rain about on Sunday but good dry periods also, the best of these across the eastern half of the country.
