Major boost for Bailieborough Community School

Education

Bailieborough Community School has been given the green light by the Department of Education for additional accommodation, the second such announcement in little over six months.

It includes four general classrooms, four SET rooms, a music room, a textiles room, an art room, an art project store, a science lab, a library and a general purpose or dining room.

Local TDs and politicans have all welcomed the significant investment.

Bailieborough based TD Niamh Smyth (FF) is "thrilled" with the announcement by her party colleague and Minister for Education Norma Foley.

"This will enhance the quality of education and learning within my post primary school.

"As an Art teacher I am delighted that, within the plans, the Arts have been prioritised. The school will now house a second art and music room, as well as a new library, textiles room and multimedia room.

"I marvel at the opportunities this new extension will provide for future generations of students within the catchment area."

She also commended the school principal Martha Lievens, Deputy Principal Fergal Kenny, all teaching staff, ancillary staff and Board of Management for their "leadership and work in creating an excellent centre of learning that is Bailieborough Community School".

Fianna Fáil Deputy Brendan Smith echoed his remarks.

"This is very welcome news for Bailieborough Community School, the Board of Management, The Parents' Association and the wider school community," he said.

Minister Heather Humphreys also welcomed the announcement.

“This is a huge investment in Bailieborough Community School and it will come as really welcome news to students, parents and staff alike.

“I want to commend the school authorities for their work in this regard.”

The latest works approved are in addition to works already authorised under the 2020 Accommodation Programme.

Those works included four general classrooms, a multimedia room and a science laboratory and science lab/prep area.
