Ramor back playwriting awards

Virginia's Ramor Theatre is set to sponsor the annual Amateur Drama Council of Ireland and Drama League of Ireland Playwriting Award. The Virginia arts hub has committed to sponsoring the award for the next three years.

For this period, this very popular competition will be called 'The DLI/ADCI Playwriting Award, in association with The Ramor Theatre, Virginia'.

Padraic McIntyre, manager of The Ramor, spoke of the significance of the announcement: “We are delighted to become involved in this award with the two major National Amateur Drama Organisations, the ADCI and the DLI, to promote new writing across the country.

“The writing competition takes place in conjunction with the One-Act Drama Festival Finals in December and is open to writers across the country. Ramor Theatre has a long tradition of working with amateur drama groups across the county of Cavan, which itself has a rich history of amateur drama,” he told the Celt.

The association is one that complements the goals of the Ramor: “This sponsorship confirms our commitment to this hugely important area of the arts in our country. The winner of the competition will receive a scholarship to spend a week writing at The Tyrone Gutherie Center at Annamacarrig which is fantastic opportunity for new writers to spend time at their work. It is also great for Ramor to keep an eye on what is happening nationally in new writing,” Padraic said.

The joint committee of the ADCI and DLI welcomed the announcement saying: “We are delighted that the Ramor Theatre has come on board to support the competition, and we thank them most sincerely for this very welcome support in these difficult times.”
