Rise in new Cavan Covid cases

The latest update confirmed 10 new Covid cases in Cavan, moving the five dat moving average to 7.

The number of new Covid cases has continued to rise in Cavan where, at the same time, neighbouring Monaghan, once had the worst record for infections in Ireland, has now fallen to the bottom of the chart.

For the third day in a row Cavan has recorded high single figure or low double digit increases in new Covid infections. It means that for the first time in weeks Cavan has seen its 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population rise to a three digit figure.

According to the latest update from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, as of midnight, Thursday, March 25, the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population rise to a three digit figure for Cavan now stands at 112.9.

There have been 86 new cases of infection detected in Cavan in the past two weeks.

In Monaghan meanwhile, the 5 day moving average remained at one, and where the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population is now just 39.1 with 24 new cases confirmed in the past fortnight.

The HPSC has has today been notified of 20 additional deaths related to COVID-19. Of the deaths reported today, 11 occurred in March, three in February and six in January.

The median ages of those who died was 73 years respectively. The age range was 57-91 years.

There has been a total of 4,651 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.

There has been 584 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland, bringing the total confirmed cases to 233,327.

Of the cases notified today 297 are men and 286 are women, with 72% of those under 45 years of age. The median age of the new infections is 34 years old.

There were 222 new cases confirmed in Dublin, 44 in Kildare, 33 in Offaly, 31 in Meath, 29 in Westmeath and the remaining 225 cases are spread across 19 other counties.

As of 8am today, 317 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 67 are in ICU. There have been 25 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
