Calls for increase in bus capacity for Coláiste Dún an Rí

Bus capacity on the Shercock to Coláiste Dún an Rí Kingscourt route is insufficient for demand one local TD has claimed.

The rout is served by a 26-seater bus to cater for 24 students. Concerns have been expressed that as the school population continues to grow, greater capacity will be required to meet the needs of the students attending.

Deputy Niamh Smyth, has called for an increase in the capacity for the school transport service: “To accommodate all students travelling to Coláiste Dún an Rí a 56-seater bus is required,” she told the Celt.

Deputy Smyth said parents have raised the issue with her: “Many concerned constituents have contacted my office to express their frustration. Unfortunately, this is an all too familiar situation for these parents who are now left in limbo as they anxiously await to hear if they have a ticket for the school of their preference.”

“It’s clear that current capacity along this route is entirely unsatisfactory and is proving to be the cause of a great deal of stress and anxiety for those affected. This is an issue that requires urgent attention and I will put every effort into ensuring that it is addressed without delay,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
