Man arrested over Cavan PO robbery

Two men wearing balaclavas and apparantly armed with handguns entered the post office at Stradone shortly before 10am on Thursday

A man is in custody being questioned in relation to an armed raid at a post office in Cavan yesterday (April 22).

The male was arrested by gardaí in Cavan and is being detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.

His initial period of detention has already been extended at the request of Superintendent in Cavan, Padraig Jones.

Two men wearing balaclavas and apparantly armed with handguns entered the post office at Stradone shortly before 10am on Thursday, before making off with a sum of cash, believed to be in the low thousands of euro.

No injuries were reported following this incident and the pair fled in a vehicle, found burned out nearby a short time later at Lisnageer, Cootehill.

Gardaí have asked that anyone with information or who may have video footage, including dash cam or CCTV footage, in the Stradone or Cootehill area to contact Cavan Garda Station on (049) 4368800.

“An investigation is ongoing,” a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed to The Anglo-Celt.
