Shamrocks get set to launch 'win an apartment' fundraiser

GAA news

Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA are giving one lucky winner the chance to win an apartment worth €250,000 in Dublin City Centre for just €100 per ticket when they officially launch their fundraiser in the coming weeks.

With a maximum of 10,000 tickets to be sold, all profits raised through this fundraising campaign will go directly towards the development of a fully floodlit main pitch, a new floodlit pedestrian track , a new car park, the completion of the club house which will become a state of the art facility, and other vital new facilities in the east Cavan town club that will be focused on and for the use of the local and surrounding communities.

The first prize on offer is an apartment in Jervis Place, Jervis Street, Dublin 1 worth a quarter of a million euro. The apartment is based in one of Dublin’s most sought after city centre locations, with access to local amenities, transport links and services such as the Jervis Street LUAS stop right on the doorstep, with shopping districts, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and third level education institutes all within short walking distances.

This fundraiser will run between June 2021 until Spring next year with the winner being announced on St. Patrick’s Day 2022 at an official event in the Bailieborough Shamrocks club house. The draw will be streamed live on Facebook, with other prizes up for grabs.

An enthusiastic committee have major plans for the improvement of the club's facilities and the ambitious draw, which follows a number of successful 'house draws' around the county and further afield, will be key to realising those goals.

Speaking to the Anglo-Celt, Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA Chairman Gavin Mackey said: “Today is an exciting day for all involved with Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA and the wider community as we get set to launch a fundraiser where someone could win an outstanding apartment in Dublin City Centre.

“The apartment on offer is of the highest quality. I would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this exciting fundraiser possible.

“The opportunity to live without the worry of rent or a mortgage is idealistic for many individuals, however we are going to make that a reality for someone, and we firmly believe this fundraiser will be of great interest to Bailieborough Shamrocks supporters and a much wider audience.”

The community spirit in the Shamrocks club and further afield should ensure the fundraiser id well received, stated Mackey.

“The spirit in the GAA community across the country is second to none, and we saw this in our own club last year when we ran a 24-hour kickathon charity fundraiser for Bailieborough Cancer Fund, raising over €23,000.

“We now see an opportunity to raise much needed funds that will create a state of the art facility, not just for our underage and senior teams, but for the community as a whole.

“The development of a new floodlit walking track will be important for people’s physical and mental health, allowing them to exercise in a safe environment. The completion of our club rooms, especially upstairs will include a meeting room, kitchen, toilets and a pitch viewing area.”

With a wide array of sporting pursuits open to young people in particular nowadays, GAA clubs are very congnisant of the need to ensure that their facilities are top class. Bailieborough Shamrocks have recognised this and the latest fundraiser will help with the next stage of what is an expansive plan to ensure St Anne’s Park is up there with the leading sporting facilities in the region.

GAA clubs are now at the very heart of their communities and the Shamrocks hope that, in time, their new facilities will be utilised not just by their members but, indeed, all in the surrounding hinterland and further afield.

The new fundraiser will help to achieve that goal and is very much part of a collaborative effort.

Bailieborough Shamrocks Fundraising Committee Chairman, John Woods stated;

“The upgrading of our club grounds and facilities is an essential development to ensure that our underage and senior teams continue to thrive, but more importantly we will be developing a facility that can be used by the local and wider communities.

“I really hope that Bailieborough people, GAA people, Cavan people and indeed people nationally and all over the world will support this fundraiser.”

The people of the town and wider hinterland deserve to have access to the best sporting and community facilities possible, stated John.

“I am delighted that we are in a position to hold such a fundraiser. The club here in Bailieborough is part of the fabric of everyday life for so many people, and they deserve the best facilities possible.

“We are excited as a club and committee to deliver a state of the art GAA ground when we launch our ambitious online campaign in the coming weeks. I would ask everyone to follow Bailieborough Shamrocks social media pages and keep an eye out for this exciting fundraiser and competition.”

More details will be confirmed in the near future, with online ticket sales a key part of the club’s fundraising plan.
