Mostly dry today but a showery weekend in store

Weather Update

Cool today but dry for most and bright during the day in a light northwest or variable breeze. There will be well scattered showers in Ulster and north Connacht. Cloud will build through the afternoon ahead of a band of rain that will arrive into the southwest later this evening, with freshening southeasterly winds. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.

Wet and windy tonight as rain in the southwest spreads northeastwards across the country, becoming heavy at times, particularly along the south coast. Southeasterly winds will increase fresh to strong and gusty overnight, reaching gale force at times on western coasts. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees generally but a degree or two milder in the south and southwest. Turning milder from the southwest overnight.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will start wet and blustery but rain will gradually clear northwards through the morning and early afternoon. Drier and brighter weather will follow from the southwest, with sunny spells and well scattered showers. Fresh to strong southeast winds will veer southwesterly and ease moderate to fresh as the rain clears. A milder day than recently with highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees.

The outlook for the coming days shows low pressure will dominate our weather. This will bring generally unsettled conditions, with widespread heavy showers but also slightly milder weather.

Remaining breezy on Saturday night. Scattered showers will mainly affect the south and west with dry spells developing elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees, coolest over Ulster, in mainly moderate southerly winds, fresh at times in the southwest.

Sunday is expected to be another blustery day with widespread showers turning heavy at times, particularly over the western half of the country, with the risk of hail. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.

Showers will become lighter and more scattered on Sunday night, with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in moderate southerly winds.

Showers will become widespread and heavy again early on Monday, with some showers of hail. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in mainly moderate southerly winds.

The showers will continue through Monday night, though they will become lighter and more scattered as the night goes on. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds.

Yet another showery day on Tuesday with widespread showers of rain and hail turning heavy through the morning and afternoon. There will be a risk of isolated thunderstorms, especially over the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

Further outlook: Staying unsettled as low pressure remains the dominant driver of our weather out to the end of next week. This will bring showers or spells of rain with temperatures around average or slightly below.
