Some of the contents of the house to go under the hammer.

Mee’s to host ‘Decorative Interiors Sale’

The complete contents of St Alban’s House, Abbeycarton, Longford, and Laragh House, Dundalk, will go under the hammer later this month at Victor Mee Auctions when the Cavan-based auction house hosts its June Decorative Interiors Sale.

The auction, due to take place online on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 29-30, is expected to attract bidders from around the world due to its diverse range of over 1,200 interiors pieces that include art, decorative interiors, garden, antique furniture and militaria.

St Alban’s House on Battery Road, Longford, is the dwelling from which many of the militaria lots have been sourced.

Formerly a road of artillery and cavalry barracks, houses including St Alban’s were later built in the garrison town for army officers in 1860.

St Alban’s was later bought in 2000 and underwent a complete revamp, however maintained its original features and much of its original contents.

Laragh House, meanwhile, situated immediately adjacent to Dundalk town centre, dates back to the Victorian era and would have been known as a gentleman’s townhouse.

Like St Alban’s, Laragh House has also held on to its character and contents over many years and has been refurbished to give a near-perfect example of a charming period home.

Some of the impressive lots include a rare pair of 19th century mahogany bookcases with brass mounts raised on paw feet, estimated to fetch between €1000 to €2,000.

A pair of 19th century upholstered mahogany easy open armchairs in the Howard style are estimated at €500 to €800.

There is also a 19th century oil on canvas by Helen Mabel Trevor (1831–1900) - The Girl – mounted in a gilt frame, which came out of Laragh House in Dundalk. This painting is expected to achieve between €150 to €250 at auction.

Lot 300A is a 19th century oak bank of 15 shop drawers and is estimated to make anything from €800 to €1600 at auction.

Commenting on the upcoming June Decorative Interiors Sale, auctioneer Victor Mee said: “We are delighted to announce our latest decorative interiors sale.
