Ironclad offering in Kingscourt

By Gemma Good

“Kingscourt is a hell of a town!”

That’s the view of Charles Clarke from Kingscourt Iron Crafts, who says the town is thriving and people come from all over to avail of its services. “I had a customer in here who was after building a house in Navan,” he elaborates, adding this person “left every penny for the house in Kingscourt”.

As Charles speaks with the Celt on a beautiful, sunny day, lorries stormed the town leaving you in no doubt that the construction industry in the town is back in full swing.

“You don’t have to go out of Kingscourt when you are building a house... I wouldn’t say there’s another town in Ireland that’s producing so much all in the one town,” he states proudly, pointing to manufacturers such as O’Reilly Concrete, Frazer’s for plumbing and roofing and Kingspan for insulation.

“Then you can come into us and we’ll finish the whole thing off with a nice set of gates and a lock of lamps!” Charles exclaims delightedly.

The business provides a range of hand furnished iron work products including gates, railings, lamps and stairs.

With a full Private Security Authority (PSA) licence, Kingscourt Iron Crafts are fully qualified to fit automatic systems as well as intercoms and keypads.

“Fully insured, fully licenced, the whole lot,” adds Charles, who says he “can’t complain” as there is “plenty of work” coming his way.

“It’s great that people can come in and out again.” He found a lot of people were reluctant to call because of Covid restrictions.

In business for 26 years, Charles says he sees generations come through the shop.

“We did work for a lot of people... now their kids and grandkids are coming in... It’s great to see them.

“We’re working for the next generation now,” he says, adding that their work is constantly evolving with new designs and trends.

Kingscourt Iron Crafts is with people throughout their building journey.

“We’d be there when the house is being built,” Charles says, for example when they are putting in stairs.

“With the gates, we’d nearly be the last,” he says, adding they provide the “whole package” from start to finish.

Charles wishes to thank everyone for “all of their support down through the years” and wishes all businesses in Kingscourt every success in their re-opening.
