Music grants to the tune of €2,000 for local organisations

Four local groups which provide music tuition received modest grants under a new grant. Three Cavan organisations, and one from Monaghan each received €2,000 under a scheme called the 'Non-Mainstream Music Education Bursary'.

The Cavan beneficiaries are St. Mary's Brass and Reed Band in Kingscourt, Nyah Comhaltas and Cavan Town Comhaltas, while Stedfast Shoes Brass Band from Monaghan also received the bursary.

The scheme - with a total national budget of €100,000 - provides aims to support music education and music initiatives to continue to cultivate the talent of young musicians.

“It is vital that we provide these opportunities to our children and young people," Minister Heather Humphreys said. "I hope that these grants announced by the Department of Education can enable community organisations in Cavan and Monaghan to continue providing music tuition and classes for the remainder of this year.”
